Project Title
Carbon Countdown_BR: A baseline for Brazil’s soil and vegetation carbon stocks
Summary
The fellow will join the team of a large project quantifying carbon stocks in the vegetation of Brazil’s six biomes, and will be responsible for extracting data from a literature review conducted across multiple sources of information. The project aims to synthesize existing knowledge on carbon stocks in natural and cultivated vegetation, generate a reference database for carbon projects in Brazil, and analyze the main factors controlling these stocks.
Project Description and Objectives
The project seeks to synthesize existing knowledge on carbon stocks in natural and cultivated vegetation across Brazilian territory, identifying gaps and defining regional references for carbon sequestration. The data generated will meet the demand for baselines for carbon projects in Brazil and will support analyses of the relative importance of controlling factors such as vegetation cover, climate, human interventions, topography, soil attributes, and previous land use.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Agronomy, Agronomic, Forest or Environmental Engineering, or related fields;
Master’s degree in Soil Science or related fields, or two years of proven experience in database editing and management and/or literature review in soil science;

Teamwork skills, organization, and attention to detail;
Hands-on experience with literature searches in online databases (e.g., Web of Science);
Fluency in reading and interpreting texts in English and Portuguese;
Experience with literature review and data management.
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of soil carbon sampling methods, soil chemical and physical analyses, agronomic experimental design, and interpretation of agricultural management systems;
