Project Description and Objectives
Educarbon is an environmental and scientific education initiative aimed at raising awareness of elementary school students about climate change, with an emphasis on the role of carbon in the Earth system and nature-based solutions to mitigate global warming.
The project integrates teaching, research and extension by promoting interactive educational experiences, accessible and contextualized to the students’ reality. Through active methodologies, such as project-based learning, practical demonstrations, and the use of didactic models, Educarbon seeks to translate complex scientific concepts — such as the carbon cycle, greenhouse effect, and soil conservation — into understandable and meaningful content for children and young people.
The activities include the training of university extension students, who act as multipliers of knowledge, and the realization of educational actions aimed at public and private schools, strengthening the relationship between university and community.
The project also encourages the development of socio-emotional and scientific skills, such as critical thinking, communication, creativity and student protagonism, contributing to the formation of citizens who are more aware and engaged with sustainability.
The main objective of the Science Journalism Scholarship – Level JC-III is to promote climate and environmental education in an interactive and accessible way, contributing to the formation of critical and aware students about the role of carbon, soil and cities in mitigating climate change. The activities of the JC-III Fellow will be related to:
- Manage and supervise the activities developed by AEX students, organizing schedules, goals and monitoring of results;
- Support student training courses on topics related to climate change, land use and conservation, sustainable cities and sustainable development;
- Guide the development of teaching materials, including interactive models and educational resources aimed at urban sustainability;
- Stimulate student protagonism, strengthening scientific communication skills, teamwork and critical thinking;
- Coordinate environmental education actions aimed at visiting schools, using active methodologies and learning strategies by demonstration;
- Articulate the relationship with the external community, contributing to the strengthening of university extension;
- Monitor and evaluate activities, systematizing data, preparing reports and proposing improvements in the actions developed;
