The Center for Carbon Studies in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON) is a world-class center located at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP), was recently approved in the Research, Diffusion and Innovation Centers Program (CEPID) from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
CCARBON’s mission is to develop innovative solutions and strategies to strengthen lowcarbon tropical agriculture. CCARBON is offering a vacancy for a researcher with a doctorate degree. This vacancy is open to Brazilians and foreigners.
The successful candidate will be hired via a research grant worth R$8,479.20 (eight thousand, four hundred and nine reais and twenty cents; equivalent to about US$1,700) gross monthly (before the incidence of income tax) by period of 03 months.
It is desirable that the candidate is highly motivated, scientifically productive and has experience as an academic manager of research projects that provided greater efficiency in the organization of projects, optimization of researchers’ time and greater international competitiveness of research, thus promoting the advancement of areas of knowledge related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing carbon sequestration in the agriculture, livestock and forestry sectors.
Activities to be developed by the scholarship holder
The selected candidate will monitor the progress of activities according to the CCARBON/USP schedule and will participate in management tasks, with a particular focus on the elaboration of the CCARBON´s annual report and participation on the activities of the Research Division. These activities aims to integrate production chains and strategic themes in a systemic and interconnected approach, increasing the scientific and technological impact of CCARBON/USP in promoting low-carbon tropical agriculture.
Currently, CCARBON/USP involves over 70 principal and associate researchers, and a growing team of more than 220 postdoctoral researchers, PhD, MSc, and undergraduate students, with expectations of further expansion. This multidisciplinary ecosystem demands integrated and efficient management, especially under the new organizational structure based on thematic pillars, sectorial chains, and transversal areas.
Within this context, the fellow will carry out the following activities:
a. Support the articulation and integration of sectorial chains and transversal areas,
ensuring synergy among research groups and alignment with the main pillars (carbon
removal and GHG emission reduction);
b. Collaborate in organizing and monitoring the deliverables of each research chain,
including schedules, goals, and milestones;
c. Liaise with chain leaders and associated researchers to systematize ongoing actions and
assist in consolidating work plans;
d. Assist in the preparation of scientific and management reports (interim and final), in
coordination with thematic leaders;
e. Provide support for the curation and consolidation of data, charts, tables, and technical
content for institutional presentations, reports, and dissemination materials;
f. Organize regular meetings of the research chains and systematize minutes, decisions,
and follow-ups;
g. Support the prospecting of technical and institutional partnerships aligned with the
thematic areas of the matrix;
h. Map relevant funding opportunities (calls for proposals) aligned with the priorities of
each research chain;
i. Identify scientific and technical events where the research chains can disseminate
results and represent the center;
j. Support the coordination of activities carried out by undergraduate, master’s, doctoral,
and postdoctoral fellows linked to the chains;
k. Collaborate with the center’s scientific communication initiatives, working in
coordination with thematic leaders and the communication team;
l. Contribute to the development of scientific and technical outputs (e.g., e-books,
technical bulletins, reports, peer-reviewed publications);
m. Assist in managing the financial flow of the chain under their responsibility and in
ensuring efficient use of allocated resources;
n. Provide initial responses to institutional requests, partner inquiries, or media contacts
related to the chain supported by the fellow.
