Project Title
CCARBON Atmosphere – Climate Change Impact Assessment in Major Brazilian Crops
Abstract
The CCARBON Atmosphere module is dedicated to developing and applying process-based models for major Brazilian agricultural crops. The primary objective is to simulate the impact of climate change, such as rising temperatures and altered rainfall patterns, on the yield, yield components and and sustainability of these crops. Through these simulations, researchers can identify the risks and vulnerabilities of production chains and propose adaptation strategies. This includes evaluating different management practices, developing new, more resilient cultivars, and exploring more efficient agricultural systems, with the ultimate goal of ensuring food security and the resilience of tropical agriculture in a constantly changing climate scenario..
Project Description and Objectives
The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for:
- Process-Based Modeling: Develop and apply process-based models to simulate key Brazilian crops under various climate change scenarios.
- Model Calibration and Validation: Support the execution of field experiments to collect data for the calibration and validation of crop models.
- Scientific Dissemination: Write and publish scientific articles, disseminating the project’s key findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Contribute to the integration of multidisciplinary teams of students and faculty, fostering collaboration in the fields of climate change and agriculture..
